Art “Pinky” Deras is a name that echoes through the halls of Little League history with an almost mythical reverence. Born in 1948 in Hamtramck, Michigan, Deras earned the nickname "Pinky" for his shockingly red hair. From an early age, his athletic prowess was undeniable. He starred in the Hamtramck Little League team and by 1959, he led his team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Not only did Pinky dominate as a pitcher, but his skill with the bat was just as formidable. In that legendary season, Deras pitched a staggering six no-hitters and tallied an astounding 16 home runs. His right arm seemed almost magical, striking out 75 batters over 38 innings and allowing only one unearned run.

Pinky's heroics did more than win games; they united his community and inspired countless young athletes. Though he chose not to pursue professional baseball, turning instead to a successful career as a police officer, his legacy on the Little League diamond remains immortal.
